Echoes of Silence

This photographic series explores the transgenerational transmission of war trauma from the Second World War to the children born in its shadow — those who came into the world in the early 1960s.

The images, taken by the artist at the age of six with a small plastic camera, capture fragments of a post-war childhood shaped by what was left unsaid. Though the war had ended long before, its emotional residue persisted — in gestures, in silence, in the fragile atmosphere of everyday life.

These photographs are less a record of events than a reflection of what could not be spoken: the hidden grief, the unacknowledged fear, and the inherited unease passed down through family dynamics and collective memory.

Through the innocent gaze of a child, the series reveals how trauma transcends time — quietly imprinting itself on the next generation, shaping their sense of identity and belonging in ways both subtle and profound.
